Events

Pride celebrations are very liberating and eye-opening events that have been the foundation of the coming out process for the LGBT community. These events, which celebrate the Stonewall Riots of 1969, are annual festivals that generally involve a parade that ends with food and music in the park. In North Texas, there are several pride events with the biggest being in September.

National Coming Out Day is observed on October 11 by members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities and their allies to commemorate the importance
of this single act of bravery and courage.

National Coming Out Day events are aimed at raising awareness of the LGBT community among the general populace in an effort to educate and encourage new allies and LGBT persons to take their next steps in living openly.

The Human Rights Campaign Coming Out Project helps supply National Coming Out Day events across the country with resources to educate LGBT persons, parents and their children as well as straight friends and relatives.

Big Tex
Come out for a full day of fun at the State Fair of Texas®. Join gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and their family, friends, and allies to enjoy the rides, exhibits, and food at the fair. Wear Human Rights Campaign stickers, t-shirts, caps, rainbow accessories or just wear RED.

• Exhibits are open from 10 am until 10 pm. A couple of gates open as early as 7 am, but only the livestock are up and about at that time.
• General admission is $13, and most of the shows and attractions are free once you get inside. Seniors (60 & over) and children ages 3 up to 48-inches-tall pay only $9. Children 2 and under are admitted free. Discounted general admission ticket in advance for $11.50 at Kroger.
• State Fair parking is $9 per car. Look for "Official State Fair Parking" signs.
