Straight GuideHRC, in partnership with PFLAG, is proud to launch our first ever resource specifically for friends and family – A Straight Guide to GLBT Americans. The guide is a resource that helps map some of the emotions straight people feel when someone first comes out to them, walks people through myths and facts about GLBT Americans, and outlines ways straight people can demonstrate their support. Download your copy today to share with your friends and family. HRC SnapshotFor many people, starting the conversation about life as a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender person - or even as a straight ally - can be challenging. What do you say? How do you bring it up? How will they react -- will it get wierd? As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and HRC's Snapshot Project is an easy and fun way to start those conversations. It's easy. Learn how at HRC Snapshot. |
Why Coming Out Will Set New Standards For All
I have found in my many years of life thus far, that things have definately changed for the GLBT community. It has changed for the better. However, I know that we have so far to go.
I see and meet so many individuals who are still not out. There are many reasons as to their being closeted. I understand that! However, if we as Gay Americans do not COME OUT and make a stand, then how in the world are we to expect equal rights?
I know if every American who is Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Trangender would come out of the closet and be counted, we would see changes and result way beyond our expectations. The American Goverment and all it's people would have no choice but to finally make it known that WE ALL deserve the right to EQUALITY.
Coming Out is not a testament of one's bedroom manner, but rather a testament to one's right as a human being. GLBT Community, it's time once and for all to rid your minds of the negative thoughts of what coming out may or may not do, and it's time to raise you heads and meet life head on. It's time to take everything it throws at you and face it with as much strength and determination than ever.
We have the right to be free in this so called free country. We have the right to remain who and what we are, without any hesitation or thought as to whether or not we are worthy of recieveing it. The GLBT community has contributed so much to the world around us, without us it would be a dim and dull place to live. Be as colorful as OUR flag allows us to be. Be as determined as our inner strength tells us to be. Be everything YOU so want to be ..... But be it openly and with honesty.
