About the Coming Out Project of Dallas / Fort Worth

Mission

The Coming Out Project of Dallas / Fort Worth, a local program of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, encourages Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender persons and supportive others to take their next step in the life-long process of living openly and freely.

Vision

We envision a society where sexual orientation and gender identity are not issues that would distinguish a person any more than one’s eye color or left-handedness. We see a family, a friend, a coworker, an employer or a complete stranger that does not hesitate in their normal interaction with someone who holds these differing human characteristics.

Values

Being open and honest about who we are every day promotes acceptance and empowerment for all, one person at a time. We feel that it is our duty to provide the needed support and encouragement to those that are having trouble accepting and sharing their differences with others. Throughout all of our activities, we will send a responsible message that does not encourage action counter to one’s self-interest or beyond one’s personal limits.

Strategy: Visibility, Education & Support

We will achieve our mission through visibility and educational projects that encourage LGBT persons to be who they are and non-LGBT persons to be accepting of these differences. We will also work to provide needed emotional support through promotion and facilitation of educational workshops that offer help to those seeking to live openly and honestly.
